The perfect girls’ weekend in Melbourne

Guest post from Tash McGill, who got to fly to Melbourne on Emirates new A380 – in first class. (Read her review here >>>)

There’s something to be said for a great bathroom – in fact, how many perfectly satisfactory hotel rooms have been ruined by a tiny, awkward, poorly-lit bathroom? Too many that I can recall.

Como Hotel suite

The luxurious Como suite

So – when planning a getaway, especially if it’s for relaxation, it’s important to book a hotel with a great bathroom. The Como Hotel in South Yarra is recently refurbished and the bathrooms are a win! Deep, wide and luxurious bathtubs with massage jets, marble tiled showers and a divine range of Morrissey toiletries take bathing to a whole new level.

Just a hop, skip and a jump from the Central City and accessible by bus, train and taxi – South Yarra is home to boutique and outlet shopping, book stores, coffee shops and food. But should you want to stay in and enjoy a quiet moment, you can also enjoy the rooftop pool (heated), spa, sauna, sun terrace or gymnasium – all before treating yourself to one of those amazing baths. Naturally, once you’ve steamed, spa’d, sauna’d, swum and bathed, you’re ready to hit the bed (super comfy, super king sized) or the couch (in front of the big flat screen TV) or the town.

Hotel Windsor high tea

Sweet treats at the Hotel Windsor

We headed to the delightful old-world luxury of another prime establishment, the Hotel Windsor, to partake in their popular afternoon tea.

The last of it’s kind in Melbourne, afternoon tea is served in three sittings by booking only and the place was packed when we arrived. A menu of delicious teas across the spectrum was presented, along with tiers of small sandwiches perfectly cut, tasty pastry morsels and sweet temptations of chocolate and berry.

We started with a little sparkling wine (as you do) and toasted the resplendent surroundings, plastered ceilings and hanging chandeliers before being joined by some friends from the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival.

Collette Dinnigan

Collette Dinnigan’s runway and available for purchase

The LMFF happens in March and is a fashion event devoted to the consumer, so everything on the runway you can walk down the street to purchase immediately.

A number of New Zealand designers have shown at the festival in the past and thousands arrive from all over the country and from New Zealand for a shopping experience like no other. And now, you can use your smartphone to tag the looks you like, and the phone will show you the closest point of purchase. It’s magic.

The perfect weekend away with the girls, or even mothers and daughters: buy a ticket to a runway show, take a shopping tour around Melbourne and High Tea at Hotel Windsor.

So, now I’ve done all that holiday planning for you, I’m off to run another bath…
