Review: The best shoes for travel

This review post is about Omega Walk and Tropic Feel shoes, two brands that I have been wearing for a couple of years now and can totally recommend.

So let’s get to it.

*This post contains affiliate links. If you decide to purchase, they will pay me a small commission from your purchase at no cost to you. They are also advertised in US dollars but ship for free world-wide, so just allow a bit of time for that.

Allbirds

The sustainable Allbirds footwear is founded by New Zealand soccer player Tim Brown who wanted to create a shoe made from the finest merino wool, yet woven to be durable enough to become a shoe so he teamed up with Joey Zwillinger, an engineer and renewables expert.

They have crafted a revolutionary wool fabric made specifically for footwear creating an entirely new category of shoes inspired by natural materials, and an ongoing mantra to create better things in a better way.

These shoes are not only super comfortable, but they’re warm too. They’re lightweight and I live in mine, especially in the cooler months.

They’ve now expanded into running shoes as well as leisure footwear. Men, women and children sizes all catered for.

Anti skid shoe

Are you scared of slipping? Maybe you work around slippery surfaces?

These anti skid shoes by OmegaWalk have a durable knit upper with good stretch which provides a secure fit. They’re also breathable. They have a super light wavy MD thick sole providing great traction and grip.

They also have a perforated arch for ventilation and breathability. The classic air cushion design makes these perfect work shoes for those on their feet all day.

If you’re looking for an authentic OmegaWalk review, I originally saw the shoes advertised on Facebook, and it claimed they are great for walking if you suffer from plantar fasciitis – which I did a few years ago.

So I bought a pair and they duly arrived (allow for courier delays at the moment), they fit like a glove (they’re kinda stretchy) and are so comfortable I bought another pair for my mum.

Then I contacted the company to ask if they had an affiliate program so I could let you, dear reader, know about them.

Superflex 2 for Women

Even my plantar fasciitis feet felt better for wearing these Omegawalk shoes with their cushioned insoles.

The Superflex 2 shoe with it’s cushioned insert make it probably the most comfy shoe I own. It is also extremely light weight for travelling, and looks cute!

I wear these shoes with my every outfits, but they are super versatile as they can be worn hiking, through water, on the beach or boat or just with your clothes.

BUT WAIT, because I am now so impressed by the cushioned insole, I now sell these separately through my Travel Store – which you can read below.

Check out the current price on the Omega Walk Superflex 2.

Tip: I erred on the side of going half a size larger to account for the cushioned insole and they fit perfectly.

Buy the insoles separately

Great news : you can now get the 3D cushioned plantar insoles to put in any shoe or boot from my Travel Store (shipping NZ-only).

Check out the new Sole Purpose range of cushioned inserts here. They will work best in a shoe/boot/gumboot that has a little wriggle room.

I totally recommend crocs slides and sandals for summer travel. Thick bouncy soles so you never ever feel stones, all waterproof and non slip so they double as shower shoes and for swimming, and wash up quickly, never smell, styles that go from all day to dressed up night out (that's the one pair). Just fabulous and cheap as chips if you buy last years style at an outlet! Just remember not to leave any crocs in the sun for long as they shrink!

I did not know they shrank in the sun! Mine became brittle and broke apart ;)

Ecco shoes while expensive are absolutely superb and last forever .They do a classic leather sneaker type in a range of colours which doesn't look like a running shoe and feels like a cushion around your feet .You can wear all day without feet hurting and walk miles. And wear them out to a restaurant in the evening.I wear mine ( classic black with white soles) with dresses and skirts as well as pants.

Oh I had a fab pair of Ecco hiking boots. Red suede. Wore them for about 10 years then the sole busted. Can't find any as comfy or as cute now :(

I definitely agree with you re the jandals from Ziera! I live in these through the summer as I have quite a problem with my feet and it's the only comfy thing I can wear and have gone through 6 pairs over the years. I'm very upset with them though as they didn't bring them out this summer and my last pair won't do another summer ?

Yes! I was looking for a new pair of jandals this summer too but didn't find any. Perhaps we can urge them to run them again!!

NZ merino Allbirds are wonderful too. They are really light, machine washable, designed to be worn without socks, and even when wet, keep your feet warm. I’ve worn them all day and every day when travelling for six or eight weeks at a time, and at the end of the holiday, no smell. After wearing out my first pair, I’ve bought more and now own five airs, including a pair of their tree runners. A really ethically run company too, in how they are made. When you buy online you can return them if wrong size or you don’t like them for some reason and if they are in good condition they are donated to people in need.

Hi Janet, yes I own a pair of All Birds too. I don't wear mine as often as I'm sure my big toe is going to come through the top of the wool - is that what you mean when you say you wore yours out? I wish they'd put a little piece of leather on the inside toe!

Love the look of the Tropicfeel shoe (and I see free posting to NZ with a free bag atm)! I'm wondering how true the fit is - eg what NZ do you take and what size is the fit? Thanks

Great question! I just pulled a few shoes out of my wardrobe to check their sizes and it turns out I am a 40 in Nike (but that's because I added an insert), I'm a 37 in Ziera and an 8 in All Birds. I went for an 8 in the Tropicfeel. I could have done 8.5 too. Hope that helps!
