If you’re a sizzling satay lover then you need to head to Satay Club (aka Boon Tat Street) where plastic topped tables crowd the evening’s cordoned off road and smoking satay houses line the footpath.
For lovers of a cheap and cheerful night out with a hankering for authentic, tasty street food, this is it.
Boon Tat is very popular after work hours and you can expect to wait for a table, but last night we got here about 8.30pm and it was easy to get seated.
It’s hot work turning skewers by the hundreds
Five of us sat down at the conveniently named Best Satay located at numbers 7 & 8, and ordered a couple of jugs of Tiger beer ($17 each – incidentally a draught beer in the hotel is $15-$18 for a pint) and our guide Toon Hee ordered the food. At 60c a pop he began with 20 skewers each – I know!
Mutton, chicken and beef with our own little pottles of divine satay sauce – and more free upon request. Surprisingly it was the mutton that was my fave.
Out of 10, I’d say I’m at least a 9 right now!

HI Megan. Despite your post now being 11years old your advice is still relevant in April 2025 as we (my better half Debs & I) visited Boon Tat Street last night and really enjoyed a combination plate of skewers of chicken, beef & prawns with a beer. Costs are $28 for this, $11 for a beer or $25 for a jug of beer, soft drinks were $2.50.
At first we couldn't find it as we strayed too far north but eventually saw the smoke haze from the outdoor bbq's so anyone planning on visiting make sure you take the Raffles Place tube as that will be the nearest and it's pretty much a short walk along Robinson Rd. The big food court center and outdoor bbq's are located at the corner of Robinson Rd & Cross Street.
Our other tip is to take lots of napkins and hand sanitizer as a means to clean up after the mess of eating these little sticks of yummy pleasure, as you'll get messy!!

We are flying to Singapore in August for the first time and spending 3 days there before cruising back to Brisbane, then onto home in Christchurch Do u have any tips for me please as it is also our first cruise. Kind regards Bev

Hi Bev Sounds like a great trip. I have loads of blog posts on cruising. My suggestion to to type cruise into the search bar and they will all pop up! Hope you find something that helps :)
